Your Best Bett By Kristie Betts, The Yellow Scene William Shakespeare opines that, "We are such stuff/ As dreams are made on" in "The Tempest." In the summer, the fanciful aspects of life sparkle more, with the longer daylight hours drawing dreams out of slumber and into the light. Prospero's success in "The Tempest" relies upon his expert manipulation of appearance and his ability to shape daylight into semi-dreams. All theater works on this same principal, the ability to make audiences believe in the illusions before them. As summer descends, The Yellow Scene invites its readers to let themselves be slightly blinded by the sun and to enjoy the fantastical illusions presented by area arts. The Lafayette Community Players create their own brave new world in July's production of "The Tempest." In this show, shipwrecks and magicians create dreamy scenes on a mysterious island. On July 6, the Lafayette Community Players bring Prospero, Caliban, Miranda et. al. to Memory Square Park in Louisville for a 6:30pm production. The next two weekends, July 12-13 & 19-20, "The Tempest" plays at the Mary Miller Theater in Lafayette, but for the full experience of Shakespeare's love and deception, see the Lafayette Community Players use their outdoor venue to shape evening sunlight into semi-dreams.
